Tim is so excited for his first time in an airport!! Aiyanna, Maky, Bridget, Neil, Patrick, both Connors,  Lindsey, Matt, Dylan, Gabi, Annabella, Jessica, Emily P., Mia, Travis, Kameren, and Karlee are so excited for their first time going to Europe!!

With our activity money, we were able to take a day trip to San Gimignano, one of the most beautiful places in the world.  San Gimignano is a city from the Middle Ages (12-13th century). It was a passage way for pilgrims from the north to the south. It’s in an agricultural area of Toscana. The high towers were built to show the wealth of the families that lived there, and were used to hang saffron fabric from the windows. Cappuccino man 😍🙏🏽 The world famous gelato from dondoli has been voted best in the world! We agree!! The owner of the gelateria talks to Lynsey about his gelato We ran into other Hamden students!!! With another part of our activity funds, we were able to go into to Duomo museum and see the real gates of paradise and baptism statues. We also got to see some information about how the Duomo was the architectural genius of Filippo Brunelleschi, who built it without the use of scaffolding.  Back of the doors. 9.6 Crete: Home of Europe’s oldest city!

This morning we went to Crete. Our first stop was the Palace of Knossos.  Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and has been called Europe's oldest city (signs of civilization date back as far as 7000 BC).  The palace was built around 2000 BC.   Daedelus was the chief architect and inventor.  It was destroyed in a massive fire in 1700 BC   but then rebuilt.   At its peak, there were 80,000 inhabitants. At 1400 BC the civilization ended.  Daedulis  invented an early flying machine, which is where the myth of Icarus developed.  There were maze like structures in the Knossos palace.  The Athenians then tried to explain the great power of the kings so they developed legends about King Minos. In Greek mythology, King Minos dwelt in a palace at Knossos.
