9.7: The iconic Santorini! 😍

Alexandra was our guide in Thera Island aka Santorini! It gets its name because it is dedicated to Saint Irene. It is an underwater active volcano. Last eruption was in 1950, so the island is made of volcanic rock.

Grapes grow close to the ground and are used to make famous Santorini wine. They don’t get watered at all, they get their water only from the humidity (75%) on the island.

Mount of Elijah is highest point and it is pre-volcanic.

There are  types of houses in Santorini: captain’s houses and cave houses. Cave houses were carved into the rock and belonged to poor members of the crew.  Now, many have been converted into hotels, restaurants and shops.

We went to the picturesque Oia town! The blue dome buildings are churches.

Church of Virgin Mary

The very special Atlantis bookstore

And of course we finished our cruise with karaoke
